The EDiSU Pavia Scholarship 2026/27 can provide cash, one meal per day, housing support or an EDiSU college room, plus university-fee benefits for eligible University of Pavia students.
International applicants must prepare certified foreign financial documents, and the original physical copies must reach EDiSU by the applicable deadline.
For Indian students and parents, EDiSU Pavia can be one of the most valuable right-to-study opportunities in Italy — but it is also one of the easiest applications to misunderstand. The €8,248 figure is not automatically cash, foreign marks are converted rather than compared directly with Indian percentages, and Pavia includes a visa-linked foreign-income rule that many applicants miss.
This guide explains the 2026/27 scholarship and housing process in simple English, with special attention to Indian documents, IMAT applicants, deadlines, income rules, rankings and first-year credit requirements. It is based on the official EDiSU Pavia notices, the University of Pavia financial-support page and the official MUR 2026 admission-test calendar.

1. What is the EDiSU Pavia Scholarship?
EDiSU Pavia is the public right-to-study body serving students of the University of Pavia. Each year, it publishes calls for scholarships and college accommodation. The benefits are awarded through a separate application process based mainly on the student’s financial position and academic merit. University admission alone does not create an EDiSU application.
For the 2026/27 academic year, students submit the benefits application online through EDiSU Student Online Services. One confirmed application must include every benefit the student wants. Multiple benefit applications by the same student are not allowed, and the earliest deadline among the selected benefits controls the case.
2. Benefits and the €8,248 Package
The scholarship is a package, not always a single cash payment. Depending on the student’s income band, geographic status and accommodation route, it can include a monetary share, one meal per day, accommodation support or an EDiSU college room. Eligible students may also receive university-fee exemption under the call.
How the €8,248 Package Works
For a qualifying off-site student in the lowest income band, the total package can be worth €8,248:
- Private accommodation route: €7,419 monetary share plus one meal per day, producing a total package value of €8,248.
- EDiSU college route: €4,479 monetary share plus the EDiSU room and one meal per day, producing a total package value of €8,248.
- University-fee exemption is a separate benefit and should not be described as part of the cash amount.
3. Application Deadlines
The most important decision is whether the student wants scholarship only, housing only, or housing together with scholarship. A student requesting housing must follow the earlier housing deadline.
| Benefit Requested | Application Deadline | University Enrolment Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Housing only | 4 August 2026, 3:00 PM Italy time | Complete enrolment by 31 October 2026 to retain housing route |
| Housing + scholarship | 4 August 2026, 3:00 PM Italy time | 31 October protects housing; 16 November is final scholarship cut-off |
| Scholarship only | 15 September 2026, 3:00 PM Italy time | Complete enrolment by 16 November 2026 for final-ranking eligibility |
Note: The application is not considered complete merely because the student has saved a draft. The student must select "Confirm Application" and retain the confirmation receipt.
4. Applying from India
Can Indian students apply before admission, visa or arrival in Italy?
Yes. An Indian student can submit the EDiSU application from India before completing University of Pavia enrolment and before receiving an Italian study visa. This is especially important for IMAT applicants because the EDiSU housing deadline comes before the English Medicine admission test.
5. Eligibility and Red Flags
The call covers eligible first-year and later-year students enrolled or planning to enrol at the University of Pavia, including bachelor’s, master’s, single-cycle degrees (Medicine), eligible PhDs, and certain non-medical specialisations.
Cases That Need Careful Screening
- The student already holds a qualification at the same or a higher level than the new programme.
- The student holds another incompatible public/private university scholarship for the same year.
- The student has previous university enrolment, withdrawal, transfer, repeated years or course changes.
- The housing applicant is 32 or older, or is an existing EDiSU resident who missed the reconfirmation route.
- The family unit is unclear due to separation, marriage, guardianship or non-cohabiting parents.
- The student claims independent status but cannot prove required residence and income conditions.
6. Financial Thresholds and the €10,179.85 Rule
For 2026/27, both maximum financial limits must be respected:
| Financial Indicator | 2026/27 Limit |
|---|---|
| ISEE UNI or equivalent foreign ISEE | Not above €26,887.93 |
| ISPE UNI | Not above €58,452.06 |
The €10,179.85 Foreign-Income Assessment Floor
EDiSU Pavia includes a clause for foreign students: income earned abroad and declared by the foreign student must be no less than €10,179.85. The call links this figure to the minimum financial resources required for an Italian study visa.
This rule is unusual and easily misunderstood. It does not mean families should alter or manufacture income certificates. Submit true, officially certified figures. If genuine certified income is below €10,179.85, obtain written clarification from EDiSU before applying.
7. Class 12 Mark Conversion
The call requires an Italian-equivalent score of at least 70 out of 100 for specified first-year applicants. This does not mean an Indian student needs a raw 70% in Class 12, because foreign marks are converted using the official Italian formula.
Example: A Student with 68%
Assume the board maximum is 100 and official diploma pass mark is 33. In Italian conversion, pass mark corresponds to 60 and maximum corresponds to 100:
For 68%: 60 + [(68 - 33) / (100 - 33)] × 40 ≈ 80.90 / 100. This student comfortably clears the 70/100 threshold!
8. Indian Financial Documents
Standard Indian foreign-income cases should prepare four document groups for the family unit:
| Document Group | What It Should Cover |
|---|---|
| Family composition | Student, every family member, and everyone officially resident in household with date of birth and relation. |
| 2025 income | Gross income for every adult member, or official unemployment/no-income certification. |
| Property as of 31 Dec 2025 | Buildings/land owned by adults including area in sq. meters, or official no-property certificate. |
| Movable assets as of 31 Dec 2025 | Bank balances, shares, bonds, or investments held by each adult member. |
Documents must be issued by competent authorities, legalised/apostilled where required, and accompanied by certified Italian translations. Scans must be uploaded online, and original physical copies dispatched via prepaid, traceable courier.

| By 3 September 2026 | Housing final ranking |

10. IMAT Deadlines
The MUR scheduled the 2026 IMAT (English Medicine) test for 30 September 2026. The EDiSU housing deadline is 4 August (57 days before the test!). Medicine applicants MUST apply for EDiSU before taking or knowing their IMAT results.
For Pavia enrolment, 31 October is the housing cut-off. If enrolment occurs between 1-16 November, scholarship eligibility remains active, but housing is lost.
11. Rankings: "Eligible vs Beneficiary"
"Eligible" means you meet all income and merit rules. "Beneficiary" means funding has been allocated to you. A student can be eligible initially without receiving funds if regional budget limits are met.
Historical data shows status changes over time. In March 2026, 433 eligible students became beneficiaries, followed by 702 more in May 2026 as funds expanded. Monitor your portal regularly!
12. Housing and Off-Site Status
Room allocation depends on ranking. When offered a room, students usually have only two days to accept, agree to college rules, and pay the deposit.
Foreign students appear as commuters initially. To secure full off-site scholarship rates, submit a registered lease, private college proof, or mobility document by 8 November 2026.
13. First-Year Merit: 30 CFU vs 35 CFU
30 CFU by 10 August 2027: Retains 100% of first-year scholarship benefits.
30 CFU between 11 Aug & 30 Nov 2027: Retains only 50% benefit; second installment is forfeited.
Below 30 CFU by 30 Nov 2027: Total revocation; benefits/cash must be repaid.
14. Payment & Common Mistakes
To receive payment, the student must hold a bank IBAN in their name (or joint) and complete incompatibility declarations. Deadline for cash collection formalities for 2026/27 is 31 December 2027.
- Waiting for IMAT results before applying for housing
- Selecting scholarship only when wanting college housing

- Using self-declarations instead of official bank/tax papers
- Omitting family members' income or bank accounts
- Assuming raw 70% Indian score is required
- Failing to declare previous university history
- Missing the 8 November off-site proof deadline
- Stopping at 30 CFU without planning for renewal

Frequently Asked Questions
Housing or housing plus scholarship closes on 4 August 2026 at 3:00 PM Italy time. Scholarship only closes on 15 September 2026 at 3:00 PM Italy time.
Yes. Students can apply online before arriving in Italy and before completing University of Pavia enrolment. Physical original certified financial documents must reach EDiSU by the deadline.
Not necessarily. For an off-site student in the lowest income tier, €8,248 represents total package value, combining cash, meals, and college housing services.
The ISEE UNI threshold is €26,887.93, and the ISPE UNI threshold is €58,452.06.
The rule is an Italian-equivalent score of 70/100. Because Indian marks are converted taking into account board pass marks (e.g., 33%), raw scores below 70% often convert to over 70/100 in the Italian system.
