ESU Venice Accommodation Guide 2026/27
Comprehensive housing application guide for Ca' Foscari University and IUAV students, international applicants, deadlines, ISEE Parificato rules, and room tariffs.
Yes — you can start the ESU Venice housing application while you are still in India and your visa is pending. If your matriculation or pre-matriculation number has not been issued, the call allows the temporary code 000000.
Housing is competitive: meeting the financial and administrative conditions does not automatically guarantee a bed assignment.
If you searched for “ESU Venice scholarship”, read this first. This article covers the ESU Venice accommodation / housing competition for students of Ca' Foscari University and IUAV. Housing and scholarship procedures are separate. Do not assume that submitting this housing application automatically submits a scholarship application.

1. What is ESU Venice accommodation?
ESU Venezia is the regional Right to University Education body in Venice. For the 2026/27 academic year, it runs a competitive accommodation service for students enrolled at Ca' Foscari University of Venice and IUAV University of Venice. Beds are offered in ESU-managed residences and in affiliated residences or apartments in Venice, Mestre and Treviso.
The accommodation benefit is not an automatic free hostel. Students must satisfy the call's enrolment, residence, financial and, where applicable, merit requirements. ESU then ranks eligible applicants and assigns available places. The assigned residence, room type and final monthly charge depend on availability and the student's status.

2. Who can apply for ESU Venice housing?
The competition is designed for students at Ca' Foscari and IUAV who are regularly enrolled — or will enrol — for the 2026/27 academic year and who satisfy the conditions in the call.
- First-year students: financial eligibility applies; a genuine first-year student does not need university CFU credits to enter the first-year housing ranking. The student must ultimately be admitted to the course.
- Students after the first year: both income and merit requirements apply. Merit is measured using credits earned by 10 August 2026, with the thresholds specified in the call.
- Non-EU students: for housing access, non-EU students are considered out-of-resident unless their family unit resides in Italy. This is the usual position for an Indian student whose family lives in India.
- Part-time students: they are excluded from the main competition and may access housing later through the extra-competition route if places remain, at the applicable extra-competition tariff.
- First qualification at each level: the benefit is granted for the first qualification at each course level. A student who already holds an equivalent qualification may be excluded.

3. ESU Venice accommodation deadlines for 2026/27
These are the controlling 2026/27 housing dates from the official call. Do not use a previous-year deadline table.
| Student / Stage | Official Date |
|---|---|
| Applications open | 3 July 2026 |
| Main application deadline — first year + subsequent years | 20 August 2026 |
| Provisional ranking — main round | 25 August 2026 |
| Final ranking — main round | 7 September 2026 |
| Accommodation assignment — subsequent years | 1 September 2026 |
| Accommodation assignment — first-year main round | 15 September 2026 |
| Second application deadline — first year only | 15 September 2026 |
| Provisional ranking — first-year second round | 21 September 2026 |
| Final ranking — first-year second round | 28 September 2026 |
| Accommodation assignment — first-year second round | 1 October 2026 |
4. How many ESU Venice beds are available?
The 2026/27 call lists 1,028 beds in total. Of these, 756 are listed for applicants with a suitable result and 272 are placed in specific reserves under the regional plan.
The call's main distribution reserves 70% for students in years after the first and 30% for first-year bachelor's and master's students. Within the first-year allocation, 80% is for EU students and 20% for non-EU students.
5. What are the ISEE and ISPE limits for ESU Venice housing?
For the 2026/27 housing competition, the student must remain within both financial limits:
| Indicator | Maximum Allowed Threshold |
|---|---|
| ISEEU | €26,306.25 |
| ISPEU | €43,125.94 |
Exceeding even one of the two thresholds can cause exclusion. ISEEU is the broader economic indicator, while ISPEU is the asset indicator. This is why family income alone cannot determine eligibility: property, bank balances and investments can materially affect the result.
Students whose family income and assets are outside Italy normally use an ISEE Parificato rather than a standard Italian ISEE.

6. How can an Indian family roughly screen ISEE and ISPE before spending on documents?
For foreign-income cases, the housing call describes the foreign economic position using income plus 20% of foreign assets, adjusted under the ISEE rules. The official ISEE equivalence scale is 1.00 for 1 member, 1.57 for 2, 2.04 for 3, 2.46 for 4, and 2.85 for 5, with further legal adjustments in some households.
Rough Formulae
Example: Assume a family of four. After the official conversion used for the screening example, annual family income is €12,000. The family owns one foreign building of 80 m². The ISEE document checklist states that foreign buildings can be valued conventionally at €500 per square metre when applying this rule: 80 × €500 = €40,000. Assume bank and other financial assets total €4,000. Total assets = €44,000.
| Step | Rough Result |
|---|---|
| Family equivalence scale (4 members) | 2.46 |
| Rough ISPEU | €44,000 ÷ 2.46 ≈ €17,886 |
| 20% of assets | €8,800 |
| Rough ISEEU | (€12,000 + €8,800) ÷ 2.46 ≈ €8,455 |
| Comparison with ceilings | Both rough values are comfortably below the ESU Venice 2026/27 ceilings! |

7. Which documents should an Indian family prepare for ISEE Parificato?
For an ISEE Parificato issued in 2026, the official FAQ states that the financial reference year is calendar year 2024. Family composition is the current family composition in 2026.
| Document Group | What to Prepare |
|---|---|
| Student details | Passport/identity document, Italian fiscal code, university/course details, registration number if available, disability certificate if applicable, 2024 scholarship amount if any, relevant death/divorce documents if applicable. |
| Current family composition | Official evidence showing every current household member, surname, first name, date of birth and relationship to the student. |
| Family income | Income received by every household member for 1 January–31 December 2024; also relevant welfare/public payments and maintenance payments received or paid. |
| Real estate | All buildings owned on 31 December 2024, with ownership details and value or square metres. Absence of property must be explicitly documented. If the family rents its home, provide the contract valid when ISEE is submitted and the annual rent. |
| Bank / movable assets | For each account: balance on 31 December 2024 and average balance for calendar year 2024. Include other investments such as securities, shares or relevant life-insurance investment products at 31 December 2024. |
| Delegation | Student signs the ISEE Parificato delegation / authorisation form and uses the student's own clear email address for CAF communication. |
8. What are the Apostille and translation rules for Indian documents?
India is listed in Group B in the official ISEE Parificato instructions. The normal Indian-document workflow is:
- Step 1: Obtain the official document from the competent authority or institution.
- Step 2: Obtain Apostille when that type of document can legally receive an Apostille.
- Step 3: Have the document translated into Italian by a legally recognised translator, following the official ISEE instructions.
The source document must state amounts in the local currency of the country where the income or assets exist. For Indian documents, that means the original evidence remains in INR. Do not rewrite the original certificate in euros. Use euro values only when the official ISEE certificate or a portal field specifically requires them.

9. How do you request the ISEE Parificato for Ca' Foscari or IUAV?
ISEE Parificato and the ESU housing application are two different procedures. Complete both.
| University | Correct CAF Portal Link |
|---|---|
| Ca' Foscari University | https://unive.01s.it |
| IUAV University | https://iuav.01s.it |
- Step 1: Open the CAF portal that matches your university.
- Step 2: If you are not registered, select “Not a member yet”, complete registration and activate the account through the confirmation email.
- Step 3: Upload the complete ISEE Parificato documentation in the requested categories.
- Step 4: If you are a Ca' Foscari or IUAV student requesting ISEE for ESU accommodation, select / flag “Send to ESU”.
- Step 5: Upload the signed delegation form and keep the CAF submission evidence.
- Step 6: Start early. Do not assume that an incomplete or merely pending financial file will automatically protect eligibility; follow CAF/ESU instructions and resolve missing documents before the relevant deadline.
10. How do you submit the ESU Venice housing application through SOL?
The housing application itself is submitted through ESU Venice's SOL (Online Help Desk / Sportello Online) system.
- Step 1: Italian citizens normally access using SPID or CIE. Foreign applicants without SPID/CIE complete the ESU Accreditation procedure and then use “Login with ESU Credentials”.
- Step 2: Use the student's own email address and identity details.
- Step 3: Complete personal data, residence, identity document and photo.
- Step 4: Select the correct university, faculty and course of study.
- Step 5: In the enrolment section, declare that you are enrolled or will enrol for 2026/27. If the matriculation or pre-matriculation number has not been issued, enter temporary code
000000. Replace it with the correct number as soon as available. - Step 6: Complete student status, benefit choice, economic condition, ISEE/ISEE Parificato information, disability information if applicable, and merit information where required.
- Step 7: For a first-year non-EU applicant, follow the call's requirement to provide documentation showing sufficient means of subsistence for the stay and for return to the country of origin. The call does not name one universal document, so follow the live portal field and ESU instructions rather than inventing a standard format.
- Step 8: IBAN: a normal Indian bank account number is not an IBAN. A first-year student who does not yet have a valid IBAN must not invent one. If the field is optional, leave it pending and add the correct IBAN when available; if the live portal makes it mandatory, ask ESU for written guidance before submission.
- Step 9: Open “Benefits Request — Summary”, review every section, select “Save and Continue”, then press “Confirm”.
- Step 10: Treat submission as complete only after the successful confirmation message and the application-completed email are received. Save both.
11. What happens after submission: ranking, correction and room acceptance
Housing rankings are published in SOL under “Ranking Results”. Publication in SOL counts as official notification, so students should not wait for a personal email.
- First-year rankings: ordered mainly by economic condition — ISEE / ISEE Parificato, then ISPEU where applicable, with younger age used as a preference when the economic indicators are equal.
- Subsequent-year rankings: ordered mainly by merit, starting with credits and then weighted average; income is used when merit is equal.
- If the provisional result shows an error: read the exact reason immediately. Ordinary Italian ISEE errors may require CAF correction; other ineligibility issues can be challenged through the SOL appeal section within the permitted period.
- Room acceptance window: An eligible student must accept accommodation through SOL within 15 days of publication of the provisional ranking, or within 15 days of the final ranking if the student becomes eligible only at that stage.
- After acceptance: follow the Accommodation Office instructions for the assigned residence, room, deposit, first payment and arrival.

12. How much does ESU Venice accommodation cost?
Winning a housing place does not automatically mean free accommodation. The student normally pays a €300 security deposit and a monthly rate that varies by residence, room type and regional-scholarship status.
| Residence / Room Type | Tariff A — Housing Winner (No Regional Scholarship) | Tariff B — Housing Winner (With Regional Scholarship) |
|---|---|---|
| Abazia / Ragusei / Venice apartments — double | €185 | €250 |
| Abazia / Ragusei / Venice apartments — single | €245 | €310 |
| Campus Mestre — mini-accommodation | €300 | €400 |
| Campus Mestre — double | €240 | €280 |
| Campus Mestre — single | €300 | €400 |
| Tettoie Mestre — double | €230 | €270 |
| Tettoie Mestre — single | €300 | €400 |
| Oasi Mestre / Treviso apartments — double | €185 | €250 |
| Oasi Mestre / Treviso apartments — single | €245 | €310 |
| Crociferi — mini-accommodation | €170 | €265 |
| Crociferi — double | €158 | €245 |
| Crociferi — double in apartment | €155 | €255 |
| Crociferi — single in apartment | €200 | €255 |
| Santa Marta — double | Not shown in Tariff A | €311 |
| Santa Marta — single | Not shown in Tariff A | €424 |
| Campus X — double | €240 | €320 |
| San Giobbe — double | Not shown in Tariff A | €318 |
| San Giobbe — single | Not shown in Tariff A | €434 |
| Farina Residence — double | €200 | €250 |
| Farina Residence — single | €230 | €300 |
A blank or "Not shown" entry in the official tariff sheet does not mean €0. It means that the sheet does not list that rate in that specific category. Third-party providers may also make an inflation adjustment before the academic year if ESU formally updates the tariff.
- Security deposit: normally €300, paid through PagoPA / the method communicated by ESU.
- First monthly payment: generally by the 5th day of the arrival month, or as instructed by the third-party manager.
- Possible extra charges: tourist tax, excessive utility use, damages/repairs, special cleaning and a fixed €70 end-of-stay charge for final cleaning, checks, linen supply/maintenance and minor maintenance.
13. What if your room is assigned but your Italian visa is still pending?
Do not ignore the assignment. The call normally requires the student to take possession within 15 days from the date the accommodation becomes available. Without a justified reason formally communicated to ESU, the student can lose the benefit.
- Step 1: Accept the accommodation in SOL within the acceptance deadline.
- Step 2: Immediately inform ESU / the Accommodation Office that the visa is still pending.
- Step 3: Attach evidence of the visa application or processing status.
- Step 4: Ask for written confirmation about delayed arrival. Do not assume that a pending visa automatically extends the 15-day possession period.
- Step 5: Keep every email, receipt and reply in the student file.

14. Special cases and mistakes that students should avoid
- Do not wait for the visa before starting the housing application.
- Do not wait for a matriculation/pre-matriculation number if the deadline is approaching; use temporary code
000000where the call permits it, then update the correct number. - Do not confuse housing with the scholarship application.
- Do not forget the “Send to ESU” flag during the Ca' Foscari / IUAV CAF process.
- Do not use only an April–March Indian financial-year figure when the CAF needs January–December 2024 evidence.
- Do not submit only the bank closing balance; the ISEE checklist also asks for the average balance for 2024.
- Do not omit square metres where the foreign property document does not show the required value.
- Do not convert the original Indian certificate into euros yourself.
- Do not stop after saving the SOL form; press Confirm and keep the completion email.
- Do not wait for an email to tell you the ranking result; check SOL on the ranking date.
- Do not assume an eligible result guarantees a room.
- Do not assume a visa delay automatically protects the assigned place.
- Never hide a family member, income, bank account, investment or property. The call provides for checks, revocation, repayment and sanctions for false declarations.
Special locations: Ca' Foscari students attending courses in Treviso have a specific eight-bed reserve in affiliated apartments; IUAV students attending courses in Vicenza apply through the ESU Venice competition but the local service is activated in cooperation with ESU Padua; University of Padua students attending courses in Venice apply through ESU Padua.
